Note: When you join a Zoom meeting, make sure you join with computer audio. As you enter your Zoom meeting appointment, you will see a button with the words 'Join with Computer Audio' (or something similar).

First, check the box by 'Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting.' Then, click 'Join with Computer Audio.' This will allow your provider to hear you when you speak.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth is a way for you to have an appointment with an ANHC provider without visiting our campus in person. You can meet with your provider by telephone or by video connection with your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

What are some advantages to using telehealth?

No transportation time or costs. Less time off of work. Less chance of catching a new illness. Less time in the waiting room.

Can my ANHC appointment be done via telehealth?

Your ANHC care team will work with you to determine if your visit can be done via telehealth, and if so, which method (telephone or video) is best. The determination will be made based on the type of ppointment, your history, and your needs. Please note that some telehealth services, like new patient visits, are available only via video. You may be asked to visit ANHC for in-office care that cannot be done via telehealth, like labs, immunizations, and physical exams.

What equipment do I need?

For a telephone visit, you just need a telephone. For a video visit, you will need a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone. Make sure your device has a camera, a microphone, and speakers (or headphones for additional privacy). Most laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones have these three items built in. You will also need a stable, high-speed internet connection. ANHC uses the platform Zoom for video visits. You do not need to create an account or share any personal information to use Zoom.

How will my privacy be protected?

Your telehealth video visit will be held via Zoom for Healthcare. This service is HIPAA compliant, which means that your personal health information will be protected in accordance with federal law. All audio, video, and screen sharing data is protected and encrypted, and your visit will not be recorded. your provider will conduct the visit from a private, secure area--no one will overhear your conversation. Your provider will tell you if there is anyone with them that you cannot see.

Will insurance cover telehealth appointments?

If you have health insurance, check with your insurance company to find out how telehealth is covered by your plan. Call the customer service number on the back of your member ID card or check the company's website. Many health insurance companies are temporarily waiving patient costs for telehealth services. ANHC offers a sliding fee scale that you can use if you do not have health insurance or if you need help paying for expenses that your health insurance does not cover. How do I schedule a telehealth appointment?

Schedule a telehealth appointment just as you would an in-person appointment. When you call ANHC, a staff member will discuss your appointment options with you. They will ask if you have everything necessary for a telehealth appointment, including a device, a private space, and a stable internet connection. The staff member will also verify your phone number.

How can I prepare for my telehealth appointment?

For video visits, have the Zoom app downloaded on your smartphone or tablet, or have the website open on your laptop or desktop computer. For both telephone and video visits, find a private, quiet area where you feel comfortable. Turn off distractions (like alerts on your phone or computer). For video visits, make sure the area you have chosen has good lighting. If you are having a medical appointment, please record your vitals (height, weight, temperature, and pulse) if you can. Make a list of the medications you are taking and have the bottles ready to show your provider. For both telephone and video visits, make sure you are ready 20 minutes before your appointment time. A member of ANHC's care team will reach out to you by telephone at your appointment time to ask you some questions and help you open Zoom.

What will happen when it's time for my telehealth appointment?

When it's time for your appointment, a member of ANHC's care team will call you by telephone. The care team member will ask you some initial questions similar to those at the start of an in-person appointment. Please be aware that the call from ANHC may be from a number that shows up as 'unknown' on your phone. If you visit is by phone: Your care team member will either transfer you to your provider for your telehealth visit or your provider will call you back shortly. If your visit is by video: Your care team member will give you a meeting ID and password and help you enter the Zoom waiting room. When your provider is ready, they will admit you into the Zoom exam room for your appointment. Please remember that as in the case of an in-person appointment, if you are not available for your visit 20 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, you may need to reschedule.

What should I expect during my first telehealth appointment?

At your first telehealth visit, you and your provider will review informed consent information regarding telehealth. They will make sure you understand how telehealth works and answer any questions you have. Your provider will ask you some questions to make sure you are safe and able to get the best care possible. Your provider will ask you to verify your identity and disclose your location. They will also ask you who you would like to participate in your visit. For the most part, your visit will be conducted just as if it were an in-person appointment. Your provider will ask you about your concerns and discuss a plan of care. Please ask any questions that you have. At the end your telehealth appoitnment, you will make a follow-up plan with your care team.

What should I expect during later telehealth appointments?

Your care team willl verify your idenity and ask where you are located. You may be asked to show your ID or confirm your date of birth. Your care team will ask you if your location is safe and if you are able to discuss your health confidentially. If you would like someone to attend your appointment with you, please let your provider know that you would like them to be part of your visit. As with your initial visit, your telehealth appointment will be conducted in a similary way to an in-person appointment. At the end of your telehealth appointment, you will make a follow-up plan with your care team.
